Pantoprazole is a medication that belongs to a class of medications known as ‘Proton Pump Inhibitors’ (PPI). It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It is used for the short-term treatment of adult patients with reflux signs and symptoms, such as regurgitation and heartburn. It is used for Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). GERD is a condition where the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus and causes heartburn. It is also taken to prevent and treat stomach ulcers. This medicine may also be used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition where the stomach produces too much acid.
